Biography
Professor Jize Zhang is an Assistant Professor in Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since Jan 2022.
Prior to joining HKUST, he was a Machine Learning Research Scientist in Center for Applied Scientific Computing at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, from 2019 to 2021.
His research interest broadly lies at the intersection of uncertainty quantification and artificial intelligence/machine learning for infrastructure systems. The interested applications include risk assessment and sensing for civil structures, engineering design optimization, and natural hazard risk assessment. Recent projects have focused on the design of risk assessment strategies for safe and efficient modern autonomous transport systems (drones) and natural hazard mitigation (storm surges, tropical cyclones).
He is an Editorial Board Member of the Data-Centric Engineering Journal and a member of the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute Probabilistic Methods Committee and Machine Learning in Mechanics Commitee.
