Doctoral Admissions
Do you have any scholarships?
I will be able to support regular Postgraduate Studentship (PGS) (HK$225,120, or ~US$28,790 per year) for qualified candidates.
A variety of scholarships are available, at the following links:
- The prestigious Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) are listed here. The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$337,200 (approximately US$43,230) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,000 (approximately US$1,790) per year for each awardee for a period up to three years.
- Redbird PhD Recruitment Award offered by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology are advertised here. It provides HK$40,000 (approximately US$5,130) and a waiver of tuition fee in the first year.
What are your current research priority areas?
A non-exhaustive list of topics that we are currently interested in is as follows:
- Uncertainty quantifications for AI;
- Natural hazard risk assessment and forecasting (storm surge, tropical cyclones, precipitation );
- Low-altitude economony (micro-meteorology modeling, UAV modeling);
- Computer vision based defect detection;
Our list of recent papers might provide you with further ideas regarding potential research topics that are currently of interest to our group.
When should I submit my application?
We strongly encourage potential applicants to submit their applications as early as possible.
Especially if you wish to be considered for HKPFS and Redbird, November 1st is a suitable early deadline for us to compile your nomination package.
How should I make the initial contact?
Please make sure that you cover the following structure:
- A summary of the research topics that excite you.
- A section on your thoughts on how you endeavour to fill existing gaps in knowledge.
- Overview of your academic background, highlighting previous GPAs, awards, and graduation rank.
- Summary of any prior research outputs (i.e. papers).
Postdoctoral Opportunities
We do not currently have immediate openings for postdocs. But things could change very fluidly. If you would like to propose a collaboration opportunity, please get in touch.
